Chapter Seventeen

@

Connie slowly opened her eyes. She had been dreading this day for the last week, but now it had finally dawned. This evening Andrew would call on Agnes and whisk her off to dinner at one of the best restaurants in London.

She closed her eyes tight and pulled the duvet over her head. If only she could stay tucked up in bed until the whole thing was over and done with. She knew this one date wasn't going to lead to anything – if you could call it a date. So why was she allowing herself to get so uptight about it? Yet, try as she might, she couldn't blot it out of her mind.

No doubt Lucy would be talking about it all day. Well, perhaps not all day, but it would sure as hell seem like it. And then they would go through it all over again tomorrow, because Jenny and Sadie would be anxious to hear every little detail of how Agnes had enjoyed her `date' with Andrew.

She slowly pushed the duvet to one side and crawled out of bed. There was nothing else for it; she was going to have to get dressed and face the world.

“You're late getting up this morning,” said Sadie over her bowl of breakfast cereal. “It's not like you. I hope you aren't going down with something – especially something catching.” She knew exactly what was eating Connie. But she wanted her to suffer. If this was going to work, Connie had to feel really upset. Upset enough for her to realise she desperately wanted Andrew back in her life.

“I'm fine. I simply felt tired this morning.”

Sadie shrugged. “Okay, if you say so.” She hid a smile and continued eating her breakfast. This was going to be a very long day for Connie.
